Hello Viewers! Welcome back to my blog! This week my group and I, had to try to make our own 30-90 second short film using different types of camera angles we learned this week. These camera angles were:

  • High Angle Shot
  • Low Angle Shot
  • Canted/Dutch Angle
  • Establishing Shot
  • Master Shot
  • Aerial Shot
  • Long Shot
  • Wide shot
  • Mid Shot
  • Close-up Shot
  • Point Of View Shot
  • Over The Shoulder Shot
  • Extreme Close up
  • Extreme Long Shot

I learned a lot more about how Camera angles and shots can really change the way a story is Presented. I learned just how important the different shots are and how they help the audience focus on important details whether that be to understand a character’s emotions or just follow what’s happening In the scene. Me and my group tried to apply these techniques to our final video by using different shots and angles throughout the story.

.

What i learned

One of the main things I learned Throughout the filming of this project was how to use a close-up shot. While filming, we use the close-up shots to show off important detail such as the characters hands, and the object she was looking at. This helped us show the audience what we want them to see and draw their attention to specific parts of the story instead of showing everything all at once.

I also used medium shots to show the character and some of her surroundings. This aloud, the audience to be able to see her surrounding Such as the character in the background and the emptiness of the hallway. We found that medium shots were a useful way to show what the character was doing without getting too close.

Another technique I learned by using different camera angles was the point of view shot. I used this eye level angle for some of the scenes because it makes the audience feel like they’re one with the character. They see what she sees and it really invites them into the story that we’re trying to present.

How i applied different tecHniques

During the filming process to keep it as minimal as possible, we try to make each shot have its own unique purpose, for Example, when the character was looking through the papers, we use sort of a closer shot to make the audience focus on exactly what she was doing rather than what was happening in the background. Since we were not the only group filming in the hallway We had to utilize our angles to keep them out of our scene. Later, We ended up using a wide shot to show the hallway and give the audience a little bit more information about the setting

There was also changes in the framing throughout the video. We didn’t want to keep the camera in one set position because of this our final project came out, looking more interesting overall, and helped our story flow from beginning to end.

.

What i would do differently

If I were given a chance to do this project again, I think I would plan out my shots a little more carefully before filming, As you can see in my planning it lacks strong enough detail to produce a high-quality result. I would also try to make sure that each camera angle is steady and the framing is exactly where I want it. I would also try to use more camera angles Since there was a lot of use of close-ups. Another thing I would’ve done to improve was the lighting and sound better lighting and more clear audio would’ve made our film look a little bit more professional overall, I think more planning should’ve gone in to The creation of our first of our film

.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this project helped me understand just how important camera angles and shots are in the creation of media. I learned how camera angles are used to control what the audience can see and notice. It can also affect how they experience a scene by using different types of angles and shot, such as close-ups, medium shots, wide shots, etc. This project was really fun and I would like it to do it again! I cannot wait to keep learning more interesting things in media studies.
